Theme 1 — Sound and Light |
| Explore the world of sound as you create good vibrations and find your favorite pitch. Create ways of making sounds, try new ways of communication, and analyze the properties of sound. Find sources of light, separate and combine colors, and track beams of light as they reflect and refract. |
Theme 3 — Electricity and Magnetism |
| Light lights, buzz buzzers and spin motors with electric energy. Use electric energy to make speakers and motors. Explore ways to create electric energy with fruits and vegetables, combs, cups and cloth, and by turning a crank. |
Theme 5 — Air, Water, & Weather |
| Go in search of air and its properties. Find that air is really massive and creates the invisible sea of fluid that we call home. Describe how air, water and temperature interact to create weather. Track, predict and share your findings about weather in your area. Explore the world of water and the water cycle. |
Theme 7 — Living Things |
| Go in search of things that live in water, on the land and in the air. Investigate the largest dinosaurs in the rock record to the viruses of today. Explore the web of life and discover interactions within the living world. Describe the fundamental differences used to organize living organisms into kingdoms. |
Theme 2 — Force and Motion |
| Roll, spin, swing, jump, push and pull in motion commotion. Take the challenge to build a motion detector. Do experiments to create understanding about how stopping and starting and forces play a central role in the world of motion. |
Theme 4 — Heat & Simple Machines |
| Investigate heat & energy transformation as we explore heat conductors, temperature changes and changes in matter. Simple machines solve a difficult problem as you explore the world of work. Learn that a push or a pull through a distance gets the job done! Apply all you have learned about work to energy in all of its many forms. |
Theme 6 — Above the Clouds |
| Create a reason for the seasons as you model daily and yearly earth and sun cycles. Compare the earth, sun and moon and how they interact to create not only the seasons and weather but also sunsets, moon phases and starry, starry nights. |
Theme 8 — Geology |
| Explore the surface of the earth. Investigate the rock cycles and build models to understand the earth in our own communities. Explain earth processes. |
