Introductory Language Arts training for teachers to launch your GALAXY Classroom |
This live course is designed
for educators who want to make a difference in their students'
ability to read and write. While following onscreen TV characters
through a myriad of social and emotional mishaps, students are
encouraged to share their feelings, thoughts, and experiences
through reading and writing.
A thematic approach ties content
to context, helping educators personalize their instruction
and make it highly motivational for each student. Teachers will
learn how to use literature to develop relevant mini-lessons,
to present an alternative point of view, and motivate students
to be life long readers and writers. |
Introduction to GALAXY Classroom:
- Overview: History and philosophy — Constructivism
- Using a Thematic Approach to Literacy: moving from subject-centered to student-centered curriculum, explore real literature and literacy strategies
- Process Writing: A recursive, multistage process
- Technology Integration: Using the GALAXY Web site to publish and communicate with a real audience
Timeframe: 16 hours (Check with your district for staff development credits.) |
